columbus and ohio links

a2-inccolumbus::

features lots of local artist, DJ, club, and event information, along with uploaded mixtapes and DJ sets, including our own titonton and many others. tony and marcus have built this site up quite nicely, it's one to watch.

autoreversecolumbus::

ian stewart's excellent site devoted to self-released recordings. an evolution from the original 'zine, autoreverse, the site features reviews of hundreds of underground, independent cassettes, CDs, records and videos, as well as old copies of the 'zine.

bent crayoncleveland::

cleveland's excellent store and online mail-order service. probably the best place in ohio to find the latest underground electronic, dance, and experimental music. specializing in vinyl, with a wide selection of CDs also available. bent crayon is affiliated with lance mcgannon's weekly electronica show inaudible which plays every wednesday online (using the audioactive player). also features information on upcoming shows at speak in tongues, ohio's foremost venue for underground electronic music.

columbus pages::

the original old-schoolers guide to cowtown, brought to you by the tourism division of the evolution control committee. mark g and lara 7 have gone out of their way to create an in-depth site about what little there is to do in the original home of borden (or was that boredom?).

the evolution control committeecolumbus::

serving your needs since 1987, the evolution control committe offers up this double-phat but still tasteless website. the wiley pranks of ECC president spanky esoterica and ECC spokesmodel mark gunderson are hardly an excuse to check this one out, but do peruse through the committee's vast discography and soundfiles, documenting their aural assault upon our breakfasts. dan rather rapes, the new bomb turks eat soup, gunderson plunders, and jesu is the boy of man's desiring. not recommended for children under 3, as it does contain SUBVERSIVE ideas and WEIRD music.

lotekcolumbus::

an emerging crew of like-minded electronic enthusiasts here in columbus. emphasizing drum'n'bass and technology as the way forward. now collaborating with ele_mental, providing diskspace for our subversive projects.

moo magazinecolumbus/ohio::

ohio's free magazine devoted to independent music. mostly centered on band-oriented music (somewhat neglecting electronic musicians and DJs), moomag is nevertheless one of ohio's best music resources. the site features reviews, articles, and interviews with local and national acts.

the müvmentdayton::

dayton's own musical/promotional concept, focused on electronic music events. over the past 3 years, müvment initiator and well-known DJ kimyon has created a body of events that represent the best in underground electronic dance music. together with his cohort howard lee (now promoting under the bionik name), who were known together as justus, he has brought us detroit artists such as dan bell, robert hood, stacy pullen, and alan oldham; overseas technoists cari lekebusch and alexi delano; old-schoolers such as grandmaster flash and biz markie; MCs rerun, crazy legs, and even porn star ron jeremy; and has continued to keep his ohio artists in mind (regularly giving ele_mental such as titonton and powerhouse prime-time spots, and allowing lunar to set up ambient/experimental sound areas). with the müvment, kimyon seeks ot bring other forms into his traditional parties. his website, only in the barest of beginning stages, promises to build on the ideas he has attempted to sketch through his events and artwork.

the wexner center for the artscolumbus::

columbus' essential center for experimental art and performance, designed by the postmodernist architect peter eisenmann. features quarterly exhibitions that combine the best of new, cutting-edge art with an appreciation and revision of older forms of avant-garde art. the center has been the site of numerous excellent exhibitions including shows focusing on todd slaughter, ann hamilton, roy lichtenstein, and group shows on minimalism, fluxus, and much more. the center has also hosted some of the most innovative music and performance events, including performances by diamanda galas, bill t. jones, trimpin, meredith monk, and many more. the wexner also places a strong emphasis on film and video, regularly presenting new, independent works (foreign and domestic), hosting retrospectives, and re-examining older works. other notables who have appeared or held residencies at the wexner: martin scorcese, yvonne rainer, twyla tharp, bruce nauman, chris marker, and marcel marceaux. the wexner center bookshop is also one of the most thorough resources for purchasing books, magazines, and journals on experimental/avent-garde art, architecture, film, and photography. coincidentally, ele_mental cohort chris jones is the head of the wexner center's graphic design department.
