SAMBA-DE-RODA

Many capoeira rodas end with a Samba-de-Roda
(or "samba in a circle"), where all audience
members may participate by dancing, clapping hands, and singing.
Traditional samba-de-roda songs often overlap with
those of capoeira.
The samba-de-roda is just one of many types of samba
known in Bahia. Although it has not always linked with capoeira,
the samba-de-roda is thought to be a remnant of older
Afro-Brazilian circle dances (batuques), in which dancers
sometimes switched places in the center by giving each other
an umbigada, or belly push. This practice is also known
in Central Africa.
